After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of CPC held in 1978, Dehong prefecture turned the working stress to the economy construction, continuously deepened the understanding of the prefecture situation, vigorously developed the characteristic economy, raised the backbone industry, positively and steadily advanced the economic system reform, so the national economy developed quickly and healthily, and the living standard of people was improved continuously. In 1990, the GNP of the Dehong arrived 1.08 billion Yuan, the total value of the import and export trade on the border was 1.067 billion Yuan, the per capita income was 899 Yuan, and the per capita net income of the farmer was 591 Yuan.

　　In 2003, Dehong prefecture earnestly carried out the spirits of the fourth plenary session of the 4th Prefecture Committee, took the economy construction as the center, held the historical opportunity of the prefecture 50th anniversary celebration, enlarged the investment of the city infrastructure construction and the force of attracting business and investment, deepened each item of reform, urged the healthy and fast development of the national economy and the comprehensive progress of the social enterprises. In 2003, the total output of the prefecture was 4.1 billion Yuan, increasing 8.5% according to the comparable price computation compared to the last year. The increased range was the highest since 1998. The local general budgetary revenue completed 308 million Yuan, increasing 17.4% compared to the last year. The total value of the import and export in the foreign trade completed 237.6 million US dollars, increasing 17.5% compared to the last year.

According to the mentality, the prefecture implements the four big strategies, “the science and education first, the big channels, the green brand, and the construction of the beautiful homeland”; makes the five great brands, “the ecological prefecture owning subtropical characteristic, the developed prefecture owning green economy, the bridge prefecture connecting the two Asian, the mysterious prefecture gathering the treasure, the culture prefecture owning the ethnic flavor”; fulfills the ten measures, “deepening the reform, expanding the opening, strengthening the foundation, adjusting the structure, establishing the backbone, creating the brand, optimizing the environment, constructing the atmosphere, cultivating the market, and fostering the talent”; diligently turns Dehong to the model of the national minority autonomous prefecture which has the characteristic of the beautiful environment, the good order, the reasonable structure, the flourishing economy, the united nation, the consolidated border defense. All over the prefecture, the good atmosphere constructing with total concentration and seeking the development intently is formed. The development of the economy and society is comprehensive and coordinated, and each social work has made a comprehensive progress, and the essential target tasks of the 15th plan has completely completed.

　　In 2005, Dehong has completed the total output of 5.884 billion Yuan and the per capita production output of 5,533 Yuan, exceeds the target of the 15th plan~5.4 billion, in which the Primary Industry completes the 1.903 billion Yuan of the added value, the Secondary Industry completes 1.37 billion Yuan of the added value, and the Tertiary Industry completes 2.611 billion Yuan of the added value. The proportion of the primary industry, the secondary one and the tertiary one is 32:23:45. The whole society invests 3.413 billion Yuan in the fixed asset, sets up the six big industry including the foreign trade processing industry, the tourism industry, the water and electricity and the electric metallurgy industry, the biologic resource exploitation industry, the architecture and timbering industry, and the stockbreeding industry, except the traditional industry inclusive of the grain, the sugar and the tea. The local finance general budgetary revenue completes 406 million Yuan. The import and the export total value of the foreign trade completes 390 million US dollars, of which the import is 119 million US dollars and the export is 271 million US dollars. The average disposable income of the urban inhabitant is 8,395 Yuan, and the average net income of the farmer is 1,504 Yuan. The economy development in Dehong has obtained six new breakthroughs: the local finance budgetary revenue breaks through 400 million Yuan; the entire social investment in the fixed asset breaks through 3 billion Yuan; the import and the export total value of the foreign trade breaks through 300 million US dollars; the electricity generation breaks through 1 billion kilowatt-hours; the output of the cement breaks through 600,000 tons; the output of the pig, cattle and the sheep breaks through 40,000 tons.

　　Since Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture was set up, the great change has taken place on the economic construction and the social enterprise, and the great performance is gained. From 1952, the gross output value of industry and agriculture has increased more than 50 times, all the people live a peaceful life, and the living standard is improved continually.
